Weekly Reflection 4

This week in technology we focused our discussion around artificial intelligence in the education system. To begin class we looked at a website called genotype that allows you to create an alphabet with any prompts you like. This is a really fun use of AI. It is quick and easy to use and allows teachers to add a unique touch to their classroom. In my opinion this is what AI should be used for. Below I have attached 2 phrases I created with prompts!

We also talked about using generative AI to create a podcast. I adore podcasts so for me, this could be a really great study tool. I do acknowledge that there can be risks to this however I believe that there is risks to anything in life and all we can do is be mindful that use these tools for good.

We have come a long way without AI, that does not mean that we can’t use it for good in the future. During this class, I thought about the movie Hidden Figures which tells the true story of black women who worked as computers for NASA during the space race. In the movie, NASA purchased an IBM computer which took up an entire room because it was so large. At first, the women were concerned they would lose their jobs as this computer might take over their jobs. They quickly realized it took time and effort to run the computer and in the end their job just shifted to be the people who ran the computer. My point with this story is that the world is always changing. AI might seem new and daunting now but ultimately the world is just evolving. We are going to need people to program and run AI computers. I understand it is new and there is a lot of uncertainty however now that it is in the world, it isn’t going away. We need to open our minds to AI, learn how it works and educate others on using it responsibly.
