This week in technology we all presented our group research presentations.
Overall, I really liked how each group had five minutes to discuss our project but we weren’t necessarily only showing the final product. I think it is important that we had time to explain to the class a couple things yet we left them a teaser almost to go look for themselves. My group created a website so we briefly explained a few key ideas but we left enough unknown that our cohort could go and take from it what they wish!
Something I noticed today was that our cohort really enjoys discussing and asking questions! I knew this beforehand but just today while everyone was presenting on something slightly different, it was nice to see how many people were eager to learn and ask questions about topics we may be curious or unfamiliar with!
My favourite presentation that I watched was the presentation on how phones can be used as tools in the classroom. This is a topic I have been very curious and passionate about and I felt the way the group presented their research and answered questions was really well done. I appreciated their mindset that when we teach students how to use their phones appropriately in the class, it takes away their “itch” to use their phone irresponsibly at school. They argued that no matter the rules, kids would find a way to use their device wether it is a long bathroom break or sneaking their phone under the desk, they are going to use it no matter what. When we teach kids to use them responsibly it will take away the “forbidden” aspect and let them use their devices in a responsible way.
Overall, it was a really great class and I am appreciative of the community around me that allows a safe place to discuss and ask questions!
