My thoughts on running alone vs in a group!

This week, I had a very lucky opportunity to participate in Lululemon’s membership madness event where I joined in on a light 4km run led by ultramarathon runner Andie Pask!

It was a super cool event however I questioned if I should even sign up as I almost always train alone. The thought of running with an ultra athlete was scary enough plus there would be other people there! Ultimately I signed up due to the promise of free gifts on Lululemon’s part. The morning of I almost decided not to go, in the end I told myself I had to go for the free socks.

Long story short, I went and I had SO MUCH FUN. I was nervous at first to run with a group but it was a beautiful day, everyone was extremely kind and in a good mood. I really appreciated the opportunity to get to run with such kind and supportive people.

Running with a group helped me keep pace, kept me focused and it was fun to chat with people and hear their running backgrounds! I would say that for training, I would not do all my running with a group. I still appreciate my solo runs to clear my head and see how far I can push myself. After this experience though, I would certainly run with a group again. I would genuinely consider joining a running group for 1-2 runs per week but keep 2-3 runs per week just for myself. I do find the running community generally very friendly and if you are someone who needs others around to help push you, then I would definitely try a running group! Just remember that only you control what you are capable of so you can still push yourself on your own!
