How I’m feeling one month out from the BMO Vancouver half-marathon!

Today marks one month away from my half-marathon! I am super excited but also nervous. It has been a bumpy road to get to this point. Training started strong in December and was unfortunately put on pause when I fractured my foot in February. This was originally supposed to be a 4 week break which then turned into 7 weeks of rest as I was unable to stay off my foot for it to properly heal. Now that I am able to train again, it has been such a challenge to motivate myself because while I am excited to run again, I know that if I hadn’t been injured, I should be way farther along in my training. Normally, I would be tapering around 2 weeks out from the race though that feels like too soon at this point. I am still unsure of exactly how and when I begin this! (Tapering is when a runner tones down their training by around 30% 1-3 weeks out from their race to help their body recover and prepare for the race).

I found that I was beating myself up a little bit for not being where I wanted to be but I am working on continuing to be proud of where I am. At the end of the day I am still going to run a half marathon and that isn’t something the average person does. I am still looking forward to race day.

There are a few things I need to do from here on out to ensure I am prepared for race day:

-look up what will be served at aid stations and start training with them so my stomach isn’t surprised on race day!

-train a few times at the same time I will start my race in the morning so my body is able to get up and run early in the morning!

-build my race day playlist!

-pick out a race day fit!

Overall, I am super excited and I still look forward to my race even though it was a bit of a bumpy journey to get here! Good luck to all runners who will be racing on May 4th!
